The picturesque area around Eyam is full of interesting sights, beautiful scenery and interesting opportunities for all types of outdoor activities such as rock climbing, cycling and walking. There are numerous walks right from the door for all levels of walker – from easy flat routes along maintained paths to the more taxing such as up Jacob's Ladder. Hang gliding and para-gliding are also popular local sports.
If you enjoy visiting stately homes and film locations then Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall and Lyme Park are within easy driving distance of Mill Cottage. There are also many other National Trust properties within the area giving you lots of choice of things to do.
The famous market town of Bakewell is close by, with the castle and caves of Castleton only a short drive and Buxton Opera house only 12 miles away.
The Peak District is easily reachable from the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Derby, Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent – normally taking less than an hour to drive from each. There are regular bus services to Sheffield, Chesterfield, Bakewell and Buxton from the village and you can catch the train into Sheffield or to Manchester from the next village.
